Below, we’ve captured the most common tips and tricks to ensure your GPS Location Monitoring stays accurate and enabled.
These tips are listed in order, starting with the most common factors. So don’t worry, there’s no specific sequence you have to follow here. You can try these steps in any order you’d like.
If this is your first time enabling GPS Location Monitoring on your Android device, you’ll want to start with this article instead.
One: Restart the phone
Many phones stay powered on for weeks or months, and quite often, a restart fixes otherwise random issues. We all need a nap sometimes, right?
Two: Install updates
Many apps, including our own, require regular updates to maintain compatibility with other apps and changes. It's not uncommon for two unrelated apps to conflict with one another, primarily if they utilize the same features (like a map app or any other app that uses your location data).

Three: Grant your accountability partners access to your location
We know you take location privacy seriously, and we do too. So for each GPS-capable device you add to your account, you’ll need to grant location access permissions to your accountability partners.
- Log into your account here: https://my.accountable2you.com/
- Tap Partners in the navigation bar.
- Tap to select the name of your partner from the list.
- In the list of devices, tap to check the box in the “GPS Tracking” column beside your device name.
Four: Has the device moved more than 500 meters?
Driving a mile or two should produce several dots on the map if location monitoring is enabled and working correctly. A2U’s tracking is based on movement, not time spent.
Rather than using an always-on type of GPS tracking found in map and navigation apps, the Accountable2You app reports its location every 500 meters to preserve battery life (see, “Limitations with Location Monitoring” section further down).
Five: Allow the A2U app permission to share your location
The steps or look of the menus may vary slightly, depending on your phone brand and Android version.
- Tap and hold the Accountable2You app icon.
- Select App Info.
- Tap Permissions.
- Tap Location.
- Tap Allow all the time (or Allow on some older devices).
Six: Enable Location Monitoring within the A2U app
- Open the Accountable2You app on your phone.
- On the main menu, tap Location Monitoring and enter your Accountable2You password.

- If Location Monitoring is already ON, we recommend disabling and reenabling Location Monitoring as an additional troubleshooting step.
- If “Allow all the time” or just the word “Allow” do not appear in the list, you should complete the steps in section five shown above and then repeat these steps.
Seven: Enable your phone’s GPS features
- Access the location settings on your device:
- Older devices: Settings > Privacy & safety (or Privacy & location) > Location.
- Newer devices: Settings > Location
Eight: Turn off battery saver and adaptive battery features
Ensure the device isn’t using a power-saving mode, either through the Android system itself or through any third-party application. Power saving modes will often disable GPS functionality and lead to low-accuracy, incomplete, or missing location monitoring records.
The steps to turn off power saving modes vary from phone to phone, but you can often find these settings listed as “Battery Saver” or “Power Save Mode” in your phone’s settings or menus. Some phones also include “Adaptive Battery” features, which may also undermine your GPS Location Monitoring when enabled.
Limitations with Location Monitoring
Typical navigation apps (like Google Maps) have an advantage over apps like Accountable2You in that they don’t need to govern power consumption too carefully. As a result, navigation apps take any amount of time and power necessary to connect to multiple satellites, trilaterate the position, and accurately determine the device’s position on earth in real-time.
The initial trilateration process usually takes a device anywhere from 2 to 30 seconds, depending on the satellite signal strength, the device’s processing speed, and the internal GPS radio quality. Since power consumption isn’t a concern for most map apps, even older or budget phones can prove highly accurate for turn-by-turn directions.
We know people need to use their phones all day and remain accountable, and because of this, battery life is an incredibly important consideration for our customers and our app.
To reduce battery usage, Accountable2You simply asks your phone “where are you now?” every 500 meters. A2U’s ability to place your phone on a map is based exclusively on the device’s ability to accurately trilaterate its position within a few seconds. Newer, well-equipped devices typically have no trouble achieving this accuracy, yet some older or budget devices sometimes struggle to keep up.
