Install the Monitoring App for iOS

Video Guide
Setup takes about 5–10 minutes. You'll switch between the Accountable2You app and your Settings app a few times, and that's normal!
Before you start:
Remove any other VPN apps first. On iPhone and iPad, Accountable2You uses a VPN to monitor activity. Only one VPN can run at a time, so another VPN will stop monitoring and can break your internet connection. (Why?)
Parents on a Family plan: If you're setting up your child's device, sign in with your own username and password. You'll choose which child uses the device during setup.
A quick heads-up: Your iPhone will use words like "profile," "certificate," and "VPN" during setup. These settings let Accountable2You see activity on the device. It's all expected.
Step 1: Download the App
- Tap this link to open the App Store.
- Tap Get next to Accountable2You Monitoring. Sign in with your Apple ID if asked.
Step 2: Sign in and Add Your Device
- Tap Open.
- Tap Get Started, then tap Next until you see the login screen.
- Give your device a name, like "Matt's iPhone."
- Enter your Accountable2You username and password. (Forgot your password?)
- Tap Add Device.
- On a Family plan? Choose who uses this device, then tap Assign to Family Member.
- Read the Terms and Conditions, then tap I Agree.
- Read the Data Usage and Privacy notice, and tap I Agree.
Your device is added. You're almost there!
Step 3: Download the Security Profile
This lets Accountable2You see activity on this device.
- Tap Check My Device, then tap Show Me How. (You can follow the steps in the app or keep using this guide.)
- Tap Allow the Certificate, then tap Allow.
- When the Profile Downloaded pop-up appears, tap Close.
- Open your Settings app and tap Profile Downloaded near the top. Don't see it? Click here.
- Tap Install, enter your passcode, and tap Install again.
- On the Install Profile pop-up, tap Install.
- Tap the blue checkmark.

Step 4: Trust the Certificate
⚠️ This is the step people miss most often, because iPhone keeps this switch in a separate place.
- In Settings, go to General > About.
- Scroll to the very bottom and tap Certificate Trust Settings.
- Turn on the switch next to ca.accountable2you.com so it's green. Tap Continue. Don't see it? Click here.

- Go back to the Accountable2You app and tap the "X" button in the top left.
Step 5: Allow the VPN Configuration
- Tap Allow the Configuration.
- When a pop-up appears, tap Allow. Enter your passcode if asked.
- When you see "Device is monitored" at the top of the app, you're all set! 🎉

That’s it! Your iOS device is now being monitored by Accountable2You. Now that you've enabled the monitoring, don't forget to add partners for this device!
If You Get Stuck
- I don't see "Profile Downloaded" in Settings:
- Go to General > VPN & Device Management and tap ca.accountable2you.com.
- ca.accountable2you.com isn't in Certificate Trust Settings.
- Update your device to the latest iOS version, then try again.
- The app has said "Setting up monitoring..." for more than a minute.
- Tap Cancel Monitoring Setup, then tap Monitoring Settings > Enable Monitoring to try again.
- My internet stopped working, or monitoring keeps turning off.
- Check for other VPN apps on your device and remove them.
Other VPNs
You can typically use a VPN with Accountable2You on most of our supported platforms without any issues. The only exception is on iPhones and iPads.
Because of Apple’s restrictions (more on that here), Accountable2You uses the VPN settings on iOS to monitor activity. Since only one VPN can run at a time, using another VPN will interfere with both monitoring and your internet connection.
To keep things running smoothly, please make sure no other VPNs (or apps that use one) are installed on your iOS device.
